Jensen’s areas of expertise include microeconomic theory, industrial organization, international trade, and environmental economics. His current research interests include: innovative pioneering and innovation diffusion; the trade-off between basic and applied research; the Bayh-Dole Act and behavior of university technology transfer officers; trade, deforestation, and debt-for-nature swaps; and transboundary pollution. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Bureau of Economic Research, and has been published in the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Ecological Economics, Review of Economic Studies, International Journal of Industrial Organization, International Economic Review, Management Science, and Journal of Economic History. He is an Associate Editor and Fellow of the International Journal of Industrial Organization.
